Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kentucky
My Care Requires Great CoverageAs a young person with a significant health history, I can't
be without health insurance at any point in time. I am not married, so my health
insurance coverage includes only myself. To change insurance companies would be
worrisome as I both enjoy my current coverage and I would be terrified to fall
victim to a pre-existing illness clause at any other insurance company. I live
in Kentucky and as such, I subscribe to Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kentucky. My
plan benefits include a low yearly deductible and amazing prescription coverage.
Visits to any physician, inpatient and outpatient medical procedures, and all
laboratory and radiology services are covered at 90 percent. They've even
assigned a Nurse Liaison who contacts me frequently to follow my health
condition and offer suggestions for services.
Although the plan that I
purchased is simply amazing, I'd love to have the opportunity to have some
additional benefits. The cost of prescription medication is outrageous for some
certain types of medications. I am prescribed a medication that falls into this
category. Unfortunately, for some reason beyond my ability to understand, the
generic options for this medication do not serve their purpose to the degree
that the name brand medication does. Although I am paying considerably less for
this medication than persons without health insurance coverage, the cost is a
burden from time to time. Considering that the same medication is prescribed to
persons living in countries covered under universal health care programs at
absolutely no cost, I feel that the bias for my having to pay greater rates
based on my geographic location is a bit absurd.
Overall, though, I am a
satisfied customer of my health insurance plan that I have purchased, versus the others that are
available from numerous other companies. In July 2010 I fell victim to several
cardiac complications and was required to undergo both a cardiac ablation and a
pacemaker/defibrillator placement within five days of one another. The cardiac
ablation resulted in a bleeding complication and further care. The
pacemaker/defibrillator placement required a repeat placement on the sixth day
as the lead wires weren't long enough. The Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Nurse
Liaison assigned to my case spoke with me daily and offered to order place
requests for prescription medication refills from the mail order company so that
I didn't have to risk leaving my home to go to the pharmacy. There were no
surprises when I received my 'Explanation of Benefits' and the representatives
notified me upon any changes to claims filed during these hospital stays.
I also have purchased United Dental and I life their coverage very much. It works well and no headaches.
